Frank LaRose, Ohio Secretary of State, joins GOP Senate race.
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose Enters Senate GOP Primary Race
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, a Republican, has officially entered the Senate GOP primary race, setting the stage for an exciting competition. LaRose will be going head-to-head with fellow Republicans Matt Dolan and Bernie Moreno, who has received the endorsement of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH). The ultimate goal for these candidates is to secure the opportunity to challenge Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) in the highly anticipated 2024 general election.
“It’s official: I’m running,” LaRose tweeted, accompanied by a compelling video message.
LaRose wasted no time in taking action, as his campaign promptly filed his statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission early Monday morning.
“Rising prices are hurting families. An open border is bringing in drugs and crime. Parents are being cut out of their children’s education,” emphasized LaRose in the impactful video.
With a strong background as a Green Beret, a conservative, and a man of faith, LaRose fearlessly embraces the upcoming battle. He proudly hails from Akron and is an esteemed graduate of Ohio State University.
In the second quarter of 2023, Sen. Sherrod Brown demonstrated his fundraising prowess by amassing $5 million to safeguard his seat. Additionally, he reported an impressive $8.7 million cash on hand. On the other hand, Moreno, a relatively lesser-known candidate, managed to raise $2.2 million. The Cook Political Report rates this race as a toss-up, making it a prime target for Senate Republicans.
A recent poll conducted by East Carolina University revealed that Sen. Sherrod Brown holds narrow leads over each GOP contender. Brown outperforms Dolan by a mere 1 percentage point, with a tally of 45% to 44%. Similarly, he surpasses Moreno by 4 points, securing 46% compared to Moreno’s 42%. In a head-to-head matchup, LaRose trails Brown by just 2 percentage points, with a score of 44% to 42%.
Excitement is building as the Senate GOP primary race gains momentum. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling political showdown.
