Oliver Anthony shares Proverbs 4:20 with Joe Rogan.
Music Sensation Oliver Anthony Shares Biblical Insights with Joe Rogan
Music sensation Oliver Anthony surprised podcast host and UFC commentator Joe Rogan with a biblical insight during their conversation on the Joe Rogan Experience. Anthony, whose hit song “Rich Men North of Richmond” catapulted him to fame in August, revealed that his Christian faith is a fundamental part of his life.
Anthony Finds Peace in the Bible
Anthony expressed how he has found immense peace from reading the Bible. He shared this revelation with Rogan, who was curious about his experience with the holy book.
“What was the feeling that you have?” Rogan asked. “What caused you to act? What was it like when you did it?”
In response, Anthony recounted a moment of hopelessness and health complications that led him to embark on his spiritual journey. He described feeling utterly hopeless, comparing it to the helplessness a 4-year-old child experiences when unable to find their parents. It was in that moment that Anthony made a decision to surrender and seek guidance from God.
“I just decided like right then and there, like, I know I can’t do this anymore, but I know there’s things I need to do, and I just told God … I was like, just let me do it, and I’ll give all this s*** up. I’ll give up the weed, and I’ll quit getting drunk, and I’ll quit being so angry about things.”
Determined to start afresh, Anthony committed to making God the center of his life. Through this shift in perspective, he discovered wisdom within the Bible, which he eagerly shared with Rogan.
Profound Wisdom from Proverbs 4:20
Anthony highlighted a particular passage that resonated with him, Proverbs 4:20, which he believed Rogan would appreciate. Rogan, known for his affinity for marijuana, couldn’t help but laugh at the irony.
“Read it,” Rogan said. “Preach.”
Anthony proceeded to recite the passage: “My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
The passage continues with valuable advice: “Keep your mouth free from perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”
Rogan was deeply moved by the profound wisdom contained in these verses.
Proverbs, according to Anthony, is not preachy but rather offers valuable guidance akin to a father advising his son.
