Shooting at Worcester State University leaves one dead, another injured.
Deadly Altercation at Massachusetts University Campus
Tragedy struck at a university campus in Massachusetts on Saturday when two individuals were shot during a heated altercation near a parking garage. Sadly, one person lost their life, while the other is currently receiving medical treatment. The campus was immediately placed on lockdown for a grueling seven hours, causing panic and concern among students and faculty.
Authorities have confirmed that neither the victims nor the assailants were students at Worcester State University. The Worcester County District Attorney’s spokesperson, Lindsay Corcoran, stated that although the shelter-in-place order was lifted, caution should still be exercised in areas where the police are present.
The Massachusetts State Police revealed that the shooting occurred around 3 a.m. near Wasylean Hall and Sheehan Hall. Dave Procopio, the director of media communications, emphasized that the incident was the result of an altercation and not an active shooter situation.
Emergency services swiftly transported the two victims to UMass Medical Center, where one tragically succumbed to their injuries. The other victim remains hospitalized, fighting for their life.
Authorities have apprehended an individual near the scene, charging them with trespassing and possession of a firearm. However, it has not been confirmed whether this person is directly linked to the shooting.
In response to this devastating incident, Worcester State University, located approximately 50 miles west of Boston, made the difficult decision to cancel all homecoming and family weekend events, as well as other campus activities.
