Return to the Declaration of Independence: A Timeless Call for Freedom
Independence Day is upon us, and there is no better moment to revisit the Declaration of Independence, the historic document that announced our freedom.
This founding document holds immense significance in our ongoing efforts to educate and enlighten our fellow Americans. It provides us with an opportunity to reflect upon our history, starting with the revolutionary ideas of our Founders and the sacrifices they made to bring them to fruition.
Our forefathers intended for us to connect with them through the records they left behind, to engage in a dialogue with them, and to seek wisdom and guidance from their words. They fought for liberty not just for themselves, but for all future generations, including us, who stand here more than two centuries later.
While we may be familiar with the Declaration, delving into its text once again, line by line, reveals its striking relevance to our present circumstances.
“The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States.”
If we substitute “American president” for “King of Great Britain,” we realize that the Founders’ description remains as pertinent as ever.
As we reexamine the grievances expressed by the revolutionaries against the British crown, we discover numerous parallels to our current situation and our repeated pleas to the leader of the current administration. Here are a few excerpts, edited for brevity:
- “He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
- “He has obstructed the Administration of Justice.
- “He has erected a multitude of New Offices and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people.
- “He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation: For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent; For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury.
- “He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us and has endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers.
- “In every stage of these Oppressions, We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”
Collectively, as freeborn citizens who carry the legacy of the Founders within us, we renew their call for independence and stand against tyranny.
We demand our independence because of the government’s corruption, which extends even to the first family. We demand it because of government censorship and the indoctrination of our children. We demand it because the government has opened our borders to criminals, cartels, and terrorists. We demand it because of foreign policies that threaten our peace and economic policies that jeopardize our prosperity. We demand it because of lenient crime policies that endanger our lives and intelligence agencies that undermine our freedom. We demand it because of the morally corrupt policies that endorse drug abuse, abortion, communism, pornography, and pedophilia, which threaten our very souls.
This July 4th and beyond, we shall reclaim our independence. The American people are resolute — this is our country and our birthright. Our independence will not be denied.
