Richard Dreyfuss, Oscar winner, dislikes new diversity rules.
Richard Dreyfuss Speaks Out Against Oscars’ Diversity Rules
Many Hollywood stars may secretly oppose the Oscars’ new diversity rules, but they’re too afraid to speak out. Not Richard Dreyfuss. The Oscar-winning star of “Jaws” and “What About Bob?” isn’t afraid to stick his neck out on the subject.
Starting next year, a film must check select boxes to be eligible for a Best Picture statuette. That could mean telling an “inclusive” story or featuring enough people of color in the movie’s cast and/or crew. Suffice it to say, Dreyfuss strongly disagrees with the policy.
Dreyfuss Speaks His Mind
Dreyfuss spoke with PBS anchor Margaret Hoover on her “Firing Line” program Friday on a wide range of issues, including the Oscars’ diversity measures. “They make me vomit,” Dreyfuss says. “This is an art form … no one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is.”
Dreyfuss routinely shares opinions that clash with the progressive world view. He’s also eager to speak with folks across the ideological aisle, including right-leaning talker Dave Rubin.

Why This Matters
- The Oscars’ new diversity rules have been a hot topic in Hollywood since they were announced.
- Many stars are afraid to speak out against the policy for fear of professional blowback.
- Richard Dreyfuss is one of the few actors who isn’t afraid to share his opinion on the subject.
Love him or hate him, Dreyfuss’ willingness to speak his mind is refreshing in an industry where political correctness often reigns supreme.
" Conservative News Daily does not always share or support the views and opinions expressed here; they are just those of the writer."
