Oscars Create ‘Crisis Team’ For 2023 Show In Case There’s Another Slap: ‘We Will Be Prepared For Anything’

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences doesn’t want to take chances with this year’s Oscars. Oscars After the absolute fiasco in 2022, ceremony

During an ahref=”https://time.com/6257126/oscars-ceo-bill-kramer-slap-interview/”>interview, the organization’s CEO Bill Kramer told Time that the group has diligently prepared for all kinds of drama ahead of the Academy Awards, The broadcast will take place on Sunday, February 12.

“We have a whole crisis team, something we’ve never had before, and many plans in place,” He told the publication. “We’ve run many scenarios. So it is our hope that we will be prepared for anything that we may not anticipate right now but that we’re planning for just in case it does happen.”

This is all in response to the viral moment at the 2022 ceremony, when the award nominee was nominated. Will Smith I strode onto the podium and handed the presenter a slap Chris Rock For making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s wife, he was across the face.

Rock replied, ” “Wow, Will Smith just smacked the s*** out of me,” While Smith, furious, returned to his chair, he said, “Keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth.”

Smith was then invited on stage to accept the Best Actor Award for his work. “King Richard.” Smith’s presence in the audience has since been criticised by the Academy.

Later in the evening, the Academy released a statement stating that it does not “condone violence in any form.” Smith later apologized to Rock, the audience and resigned from Academy that week. Smith was ultimately banned by AMPAS for 10 years from attending the Oscars.

The CEO of the company insists that it will never happen again. Partly because the crisis team is in place.

“Because of last year, we’ve opened our minds to the many things that can happen at the Oscars,” Kramer spoke highly of the show this year.

“But these crisis plans — the crisis communication teams and structures we have in place — allow us to say, ‘This is the group that we have to gather very quickly. This is how we all come together. This is the spokesperson. This will be the statement.’ And obviously, depending on the specifics of the crisis, and let’s hope something doesn’t happen and we never have to use these, but we already have frameworks in place that we can modify.”
