Harry and Meghan’s $20M media deal gets canceled.

Spotify Ends $20 Million Media Deal with Harry and Meghan

In a surprising move, Spotify has decided to end its agreement with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and her husband, Prince Harry, after just one season of Meghan’s “Archetypes” podcast.

“Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together,” the companies said, according to Variety.

Archewell Audio, the company used by Harry and Meghan for their media projects, will no longer be associated with the couple’s podcast.

The decision to end the show, which focused on discussing labels that hold women back, came after talks about a second season fell through, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Interestingly, the podcast was the only content provided by the couple after signing the lucrative million deal with Spotify in 2020.

According to sources quoted by The Journal, the company will not receive the full amount agreed upon due to not meeting productivity benchmarks.

“The team behind Archetypes remain proud of the podcast they created at Spotify. Meghan is continuing to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform,” a representative for Archewell Productions said.

Contrary to speculation, the end of the agreement with Meghan and Harry was not related to Spotify’s recent restructuring, which included laying off 200 employees, according to Variety.

The partnership between Archewell and Spotify was intended to produce multiple programs over several years, but it only resulted in one series and a holiday special, as reported by CNN.

In other news, Meghan has recently signed with talent agency WME, according to multiple reports.

Furthermore, Netflix has canceled the production of “Pearl,” an animated series created by Meghan, as reported by the Daily Wire. However, the couple’s Netflix series, “The Heart of Invictus,” is still expected to be released this year, as stated by Newsweek.

Harry and Meghan were notably absent from this weekend’s celebration of the British monarch’s birthday, known as “Trooping the Colour,” as reported by Fox News.

This year’s event is particularly significant as it is the first time it is taking place during the reign of Harry’s father, King Charles III.

“Now that they are no longer working royals, neither Harry nor Meghan – nor Prince Andrew, for that matter – are welcome on the Buckingham Palace balcony,” explained royal biographer Christopher Andersen.

“Harry isn’t about to show up just so he can be humiliated one more time. What’s the point of that?

“King Charles will surround himself with those people he feels he can trust and rely on to do the heavy lifting: Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, and, of course, the real stars of the show these days, Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three children,” Andersen added.

According to Andersen, the absence of Harry and Meghan will not be felt as there will be other members of the royal family to steal the spotlight.

“I think there will be a lot of gasps when the kids step out and people see just how much Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have grown,” Andersen predicted.

“By not even inviting the Sussexes to attend one of the most important events on the royal calendar – and, in this case, particularly important because it is to salute the new monarch – Charles has once again made it clear that he is not particularly eager to mend fences with his younger son,” he concluded.
