Japan recalls over 100,000 bread packs due to ‘rat parts
A bread-producing company is recalling over 100,000 packs of sliced bread in Japan over the discovery of “rat parts” in the baked goods, the company said on Wednesday.
The company, the Pasco Shikishima Corporation, said it was probing how the rat parts got into the packs of sliced bread and that so far, no one had been taken ill after eating the bread.
“We would like to apologize deeply for causing trouble to our customers and clients,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday, according to the Hill.

The company said on Wednesday two packs of bread had been contaminated and that it “will strengthen our quality management system to ensure there won’t be a recurrence.”
The company confirmed the type of rat found in the foodstuffs was a black rat, otherwise known by its scientific name, Rattus rattus. The black rat is one of the more common rat types found throughout Europe and Asia.
