Over 50 people have tragically lost their lives in a devastating Russian missile strike on a village in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.
Ukrainian officials have confirmed that at least 51 individuals, including a 6-year-old child, lost their lives in the tragic incident.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has strongly condemned this “demonstrably brutal Russian crime,” describing it as a “rocket attack on an ordinary grocery store.”
Zelenskyy has labeled it a “terrorist attack” and has vowed to respond with a “powerful” action. He made this statement on his Telegram channel while seeking additional assistance for Ukraine during his visit to Spain.
Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine’s Interior Minister, has reported that 51 deaths have been confirmed among the debris of the building, which was estimated to have around 60 people inside when the Russian missile struck.
The president’s office has shared online pictures showing emergency authorities sifting through a massive pile of rubble, including concrete and metal, as well as the bodies of the victims.
Zelenskyy has also expressed his condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and emphasized the need to stop ”Russian terror.”
“My condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones! Help is being provided to the wounded,” Zelenskyy said. “Russian terror must be stopped. Anyone who helps Russia circumvent sanctions is a criminal.”
According to the governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Synehubov, the targeted structure housed a café and shop in the village of Hroza, in Kharkiv’s Kupyansk district. The missile or shells struck at around 1:15 p.m. local time, during the business hours.
Zelenskyy has stated that one of the possible scenarios Russia is considering in the conflict is to freeze the war until 2028 in order to replenish its supplies. He further warned that allowing Russian President Vladimir Putin to strengthen his military could lead to an invasion beyond Ukraine by 2028.
