Massive Cellular‌ Outage Leaves ⁣Thousands‍ Without Service

A massive cellular outage has recently occurred across the United States, leaving thousands of people without cellular service. The outage, which started in the early morning‍ hours of Thursday, February 22, 2024, has affected multiple ‍major cities, including New York, ⁢Boston, Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, ⁤Seattle,⁤ and ‍San Francisco.

One of the largest mobile⁢ providers, ‌AT&T, experienced the highest number of issues, with close to ‌32,000 reports at 4:30 a.m. ⁢According‌ to data from Down Detector, a ⁣service that tracks outages by collating status reports from various sources, other service providers such⁢ as T-Mobile and Verizon reported over‍ 800 service outages as well. Smaller carriers, including Boost Mobile,⁤ Consumer Cellular, and Straight Talk Wireless, also reported issues.

AT&T users claimed to be stuck in “SOS Mode,” where they ⁢could only reach emergency services. However, an AT&T spokeswoman⁢ assured users that the company is working urgently⁢ to restore service. She encouraged users to utilize Wi-Fi calling ‌until service is fully restored.

On the other hand, ⁢Verizon and T-Mobile ⁤spokespersons stated that their networks are operating normally.⁣ They claimed that the issues only arise when customers try to call or text those using AT&T. A Verizon ⁣spokesperson acknowledged that their customers experienced issues while communicating with customers served by ‌another carrier. Both companies are actively monitoring the situation.

The cause of the outages remains unclear at this time. It is uncertain whether ⁤this is a result of a massive cyber-attack on ⁢the cellular infrastructure, a solar flare, or a ‌satellite malfunction. The issue ‌appears to be nationwide, if not international, in⁣ scale.

With⁣ the cellular outages, ‍multiple police stations across the country have warned people that they may not be able to call to report emergencies. This situation underscores the importance of maintaining reliable⁤ communication systems,⁤ especially during critical times.

As⁤ the investigation into the cause continues, it ‍is crucial for cellular service providers to work swiftly to restore service and communicate with their⁤ customers regarding updates and ⁢resolutions.
