Comer and Raskin have different conclusions after FBI Biden briefing.
House Oversight Committee Leaders Disagree on FBI Briefing Regarding Alleged Wrongdoing by President Biden
“Given the severity and complexity of the allegations contained within this record, Congress must investigate further,”
– Rep. James Comer (R-KY)
During a recent FBI briefing on alleged wrongdoing by President Joe Biden, House Oversight Committee leaders Reps. James Comer (R-KY) and Jamie Raskin (D-MD) came to considerably different conclusions.
Comer believes that the briefing proved the committee’s investigation into alleged wrongdoing by the Bidens was on to something and must be pursued further. He stated that the briefing showed patterns that suggested money laundering on the part of Biden. “The claims made in the document are consistent with what we found and disclosed to you all in Romania,” Comer said, referring to information he revealed last month suggesting several Biden family members had engaged in criminal activity. “It suggests a pattern of bribery where payments would be made through shell accounts and multiple banks. There’s a term for that, it’s called money laundering.”
Raskin, on the other hand, disagreed with nearly everything Comer said, including the importance of the document that was the subject of the briefing. He believes that the FBI found no reason to escalate the investigation from an assessment to a preliminary investigation. “FBI prosecutorial protocol is whether there are articulable facts giving rise to suspicion of criminal activity. So they apparently decided there was not, and they called an end to the investigation,” Raskin said.
Comer to Hold FBI Director in Contempt of Congress
Despite Raskin’s disagreement, Comer announced at the press conference that he would go forward with efforts to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress for refusing to hand over a document that House Republicans believe shows criminal activity by Joe Biden and other members of his family.
- Comer believes that the briefing proved the committee’s investigation into alleged wrongdoing by the Bidens was on to something and must be pursued further.
- Raskin believes that the FBI found no reason to escalate the investigation from an assessment to a preliminary investigation.
It remains to be seen what further action will be taken by the House Oversight Committee in regards to the alleged wrongdoing by President Biden and his family.
