Over 1,000 School Districts Keep Parents in the Dark About Children’s Transgender Identification
According to Parents Defending Education (PDE), more than 1,000 school districts in the United States have policies that hide a student’s transgender status from their parents. This alarming revelation comes from PDE’s updated list of school districts that have implemented such policies, affecting a staggering 10.7 million American schoolchildren.
On September 11, PDE released their updated list, which can be found here. These policies recommend that district personnel keep a student’s transgender identification hidden from parents.
PDE President Nicole Neily expressed her concern about the growing number of districts adopting these policies, blaming state school board associations and LGBT activist groups for their influence. She emphasized the importance of reminding families that these associations are not their allies.
GLSEN and The Trevor Project, both LGBT activist organizations, are among the groups pushing for these policies.
