Paul McCartney denies AI rumors about new Beatles album.
Sir Paul McCartney Clears Up Confusion About The Beatles’ Final Record
Sir Paul McCartney has addressed the speculation surrounding The Beatles’ upcoming “final record,” putting to rest any doubts about the use of artificial intelligence to recreate John Lennon’s voice. Scheduled for release later this year, the highly anticipated album has sparked excitement among fans.
Last week, McCartney announced the band’s comeback, acknowledging that he and Ringo Starr are the only surviving members. With Lennon tragically murdered in 1980 and George Harrison passing away in 2001, the question of how the band would include Lennon’s vocals on the album arose.
McCartney took to Twitter to clarify the situation, stating, “No one is more excited than us to be sharing something with you later in the year. We’ve seen some confusion and speculation about it. Seems to be a lot of guesswork out there. Can’t say too much at this stage but to be clear, nothing has been artificially or synthetically created. It’s all real and we all play on it. We cleaned up some existing recordings — a process which has gone on for years.”
During an interview with Radio 4’s Today program, McCartney revealed that producer Jeff Lynne had attempted to enhance the song “Now And Then” in the mid-90s but faced difficulties. However, thanks to the power of artificial intelligence, McCartney was able to revive Lennon’s voice for the final record.
Director Peter Jackson, known for his work on the “Get Back” documentary, utilized AI to improve the audio quality. McCartney explained, “We had John’s voice and a piano, and he could separate them with AI. They tell the machine, ‘That’s the voice. This is a guitar. Lose the guitar.'”
With this breakthrough, the band was able to take Lennon’s original demo and refine it using AI technology. McCartney emphasized that the record would be mixed in the usual manner, providing creative flexibility.
While the release date for The Beatles’ final record remains unknown, McCartney’s announcement has generated immense anticipation. In the meantime, fans can also enjoy his new book, “1964: Eyes of the Storm, Photographs and Reflections by Paul McCartney.”
