Pelosi Lambasts SCOTUS As ‘Radical’ And ‘Extremist’ While Holding Back Tears

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi ripped into the Supreme Court ruling Friday  overturning a constitutional right to abortion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, calling it “radical” and “extremist.”

“The Republicans are plotting a nationwide abortion ban. They cannot be allowed to have a majority in Congress to do that,” Pelosi said at a press conference, appearing to hold back tears. “One of the justices. Had his own statement. It’s about contraception, in vitro fertilization, family planning. That is all springing from their decision that they made today.”

A six-justice majority overturned Roe v. Wade, 50 years after the Court first found a constitutional right to abortion. Associate Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the majority that “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.”

“Reproductive freedom is on the ballot in November. We cannot allow them to take charge so that they can institute their goal, which is to criminalize reproductive freedom. To criminalize. Right now they’re saying in states that they can rest doctors and all the rest. What is happening here? What is happening here? A woman’s fundamental health decisions are her own to make in consultation with her doctor, her faith, her family, not some right-wing politicians that Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell pack the court with. While Republicans seek to punish in control women, Democrats will keep fighting ferociously to enshrine Roe v. Wade as the law of the land,” Pelosi continued.

The House of Representatives passed the Women’s Health Protection Act in September 2021, which would legalize abortion up to the moment of birth and eliminate conscience protections for doctors and nurses. The Senate declined to take up the legislation.
