Pence assumes Meadows was aware of the declassification directive.
Former Vice President Mike Pence on Mark Meadows and Declassification Order
During an interview on ABC News’s This Week, former Vice President Mike Pence expressed his belief that former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows would have been aware of former President Donald Trump’s order to declassify documents before leaving the White House. Pence’s comments came in response to Meadows reportedly telling investigators in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office that he did not remember a “standing order” from Trump regarding document declassification.
Pence’s Expectations
When asked about Meadows’ knowledge of the declassification order, Pence stated, “I would expect so.” However, he also expressed concern about potential leaks from the justice department, saying, “But again, I sure hope we’re not getting back into the lane of leaks from the justice department about these cases.”
Pence Highlights Special Counsel Investigation
Pence pointed out the ongoing special counsel investigation into President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents, emphasizing that there has been no significant information released regarding it. He stated, ”We haven’t heard a peep out of that.”

Pence’s Stance on Trump’s Legal Situation
Regarding his potential 2024 presidential rival, Pence asserted that former President Trump deserves a presumption of innocence and his day in court. He declined to comment on the latest leaks or reports emerging from the legal process.
Trump currently faces 40 criminal charges related to the mishandling of classified materials found in boxes at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach. A superseding indictment has added new charges against the former president and his longtime aide Walt Nauta. Additionally, a new figure named Carlos De Oliveira, a maintenance worker at Trump’s Florida estate, has been charged.
