In this article Philadelphia Magazine 2018 Vernacchio said to a reporter that he is concerned about the perversion of sexual views among teens by easy access to pornography. He suggested that pornography should not be restricted, but instead displayed. “better” Discuss pornographic images, and discuss sex acts. “negative” Images of traditional pornography. This article shows the ninth-grade sex Ed teacher at his high school. He hosts a graphic discussion.
He walks around the room, passing out white envelopes. You will find pieces of paper inside each envelope that explain various sexual acts. They include kissing and touching someone’s body parts, as well as more complicated ventures such fellatio (which ninth-graders have difficulty pronouncing). “penile penetration” of the anus as well as the vagina.
Throughout the class, Vernacchio challenges the students to think about sex not as certain activities, but rather as the conditions under which those activities occur — and, perhaps most importantly, whether or not both parties involved enjoy them.
As an educator, Vernacchio’s goal is to help students understand sex and give them the skills to manage healthy relationships and, if desired, sex lives. His approach to the subject is unlike any other. His TED Talk in which he advocated for pizza (What toppings should you get?) is perhaps the reason. as a healthy metaphor for sex — as opposed to baseball, which he says is problematic — has become so popular.
“Atop the bookshelves are pillows shaped like testicles and uteruses. Then there’s the display of hundreds of colorful pin-back buttons with mottos like “Use condom sense” “Frisky can make you nervous” and “SEX — Talk with your kids about it!”https://t.co/aopiCp908N pic.twitter.com/LvhHdBF32S

Vernacchio is one his school’s faculty advisors to the Gender and Sexual Orientation Alliance. His TED Talk explores themes such as orientation and gender ideology that are prominent in his school’s course.
[embedded content]In an unearthed 2011 interview he gave to The New York Times Magazine, Vernacchio described his graphic lesson plans which he said have raised concerns outside the school. He stated that his goal is to get children out of their fear of images of genitalia.
He teaches students about oral pleasure, images of masturbation, and orgasms. Fox News reported that Friends’ Central School does not offer sex education curriculum for students below 4th grade.

The school reached out after publication and informed him that there was no such thing. “sexual education curriculum prior to fourth grade.”
According to the report, parents of the school seem to be happy with the program and the teacher. Philadelphia Magazine article.
Vernacchio, who has been a friend of Friends’ Central for 20 years, is well-known and highly respected at the private school. Laurie Novo, who has worked for Friends’ Central (including as coprincipal), for 25-years, claims she’s never heard one parent complain against Vernacchio’s classes. In fact, they’re so wildly popular — especially the 11th- and 12th-grade “Sexuality and Society” curriculum — that the school once had to hold a lottery for seats. Casey Cipriani, a 2001 graduate who took the course’s first iteration, says she recalls other students — and even her own mother — asking to read her homework.

“I’m only a small part of the village that supports them as they grow. It’s not enough that I teach them. We have to teach them. Part of my message today is that we all, no matter what else we do in life, need to find a way to be sexuality educators for the kids in our lives. If we don’t step up, others will. And many of those others don’t see wholeness and freedom the way we do,” He stated. “One of the things we can celebrate today is how young people have so many more options to consider and simply whether they feel like a boy or a girl, or whether they identify as gay, straight or bisexual. Our understandings of both gender and orientation have greatly expanded in our culture, and there’s an ever-increasing list of labels one can use to describe oneself.”
Vernacchio’s own quotes should make it clear that his intention is not education but sexualization. Although parents at Vernacchio’s private school might be supportive of the curriculum, this story should encourage parents to look at the agenda and curriculum before they commit to a school. There are many. Programs may existThere are many private schools that do not support a parent’s efforts to protect their child against grooming and other plans aimed at sexualizing them.
The school said Fox News: They stand by Vernacchio’s curriculum.
“Al Vernacchio is a nationally renowned and highly respected educator. It is disappointing that his work and our School are being miscast so thoroughly. Friends’ Central is committed to cultivating the intellectual, ethical and spiritual promise of our students, in a world that needs that more than ever,” They said so in a statement.
