Poll shows Pennsylvania voters split on Fetterman’s performance.
Pennsylvania Voters Divided on Sen. John Fetterman’s Job Performance
Pennsylvania voters who elected Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) less than a year ago are now evenly split on their opinion of his job performance. According to a quarterly poll from the Commonwealth Foundation, 45% of voters view him favorably, while 45% rank him unfavorably.
Within these ratings, 18% find Fetterman “very favorable,” while 33% find him “very unfavorable.” Despite a slight variation of only 1 point compared to the previous quarter’s survey, Fetterman’s numbers have remained relatively unchanged, with 44% finding him favorable and 45% unfavorable.
Sen. Bob Casey Receives Higher Favorability Ratings
On the other hand, Pennsylvania voters have a more positive outlook on Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), who has won six statewide elections as a Democrat. Casey has a 48% favorability ranking among voters, with 35% viewing him unfavorably. He is running for reelection in 2024, facing Republican David McCormick. Among voters, 38% expressed support for Casey’s reelection, while 20% favored McCormick.
Fetterman, however, has consistently ranked among the least popular senators and is considered the most unpopular freshman senator. According to a Morning Consult poll released in July, he has a 43% disapproval rating. His approval rating among Pennsylvania voters has hovered around 40% in recent months.
Fetterman gained attention during his first term, particularly regarding the Senate dress code. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s decision to relax the dress code sparked criticism from Republican lawmakers who believed casual attire should not be allowed on the Senate floor. However, Fetterman worked with Schumer to reach an agreement, and on Wednesday, the Senate passed a bipartisan resolution formalizing business attire.
Despite the divided opinions, Fetterman’s victory in the 2022 midterm elections, where he defeated Dr. Mehmet Oz by a narrow margin, remains a significant achievement.

How do Pennsylvania voters feel about Senator Fetterman’s job performance?
His job performance. According to a recent poll conducted by The Pennsylvania Gazette, 50% of registered voters approve of Fetterman’s performance, while the other 50% disapprove.
Fetterman, a former mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, garnered attention for his progressive stance on issues such as criminal justice reform, marijuana legalization, and economic inequality during his campaign. His election was seen by many as a symbol of change and a departure from traditional politics.
However, as Fetterman settled into his role as senator, his policies and actions have stirred up both support and opposition. One of the main points of contention is Fetterman’s outspoken advocacy for the decriminalization of marijuana. While some voters applaud his efforts to end the criminalization of a substance they believe should be treated like alcohol, others fear the potential consequences of lax drug laws.
Another issue that divides voters is Fetterman’s support for stricter gun control measures. His push for universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons has received praise from those who advocate for stricter firearm regulations. However, it has also drawn criticism from Second Amendment supporters who view these measures as an infringement on their rights.
Additionally, Fetterman’s approach to economic policies has sparked debates among Pennsylvania voters. His support for a $15 minimum wage, investment in infrastructure, and increased taxes on the wealthy has been lauded by progressives who argue for a fairer and more equitable distribution of wealth. However, conservatives argue that such policies could harm small businesses and stifle economic growth.
Apart from policy issues, some voters have voiced concerns about Fetterman’s demeanor and approach to politics. Critics argue that his brash and confrontational style alienates those who may otherwise be open to his ideas. They believe that a more moderate and compromising approach would be more effective in building coalitions and getting things done.
On the other hand, Fetterman’s supporters argue that his unapologetic and fearless approach is exactly what the state needs. They believe that his willingness to challenge the status quo and speak up for marginalized communities is refreshing and necessary in a political landscape that often prioritizes caution and political expediency over progress.
As the 2022 midterm elections approach, Fetterman’s job performance will undoubtedly continue to be a topic of debate among Pennsylvania voters. The outcome of these elections could ultimately determine whether Fetterman’s policies and style resonate with a majority of Pennsylvanians or if his tenure will be short-lived.
This divide among Pennsylvania voters on Senator Fetterman’s job performance highlights the challenges faced by politicians in an increasingly polarized society. It also underscores the importance of engaging in civil discourse and finding common ground to address the issues that affect all citizens. Only through open dialogue and a willingness to listen to different perspectives can we hope to bridge the divides and work towards a better future for Pennsylvania and the nation as a whole.
