‘Persuasion period’ is over for Harris-Walz 2024, Sarah Bedford says – Washington Examiner
In a recent analysis, Sarah Bedford, Investigations Editor for the *Washington Examiner*, emphasized that Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign for the 2024 election is running out of time to persuade voters. With just over a week until Election Day, Harris has shifted her tactics to focus on attacking her rival, former President Donald Trump, alleging he resembles Adolf Hitler and is akin to a fascist. Harris’s campaign began only in July, while Trump has been campaigning since November 2022, recently holding a rally in Madison Square Garden.
Bedford noted that the Democratic strategy appears less about promoting Harris and more about rallying the party’s base by instilling fear about Trump and his rallies, which she described as a sign that the “persuasion period” of the election has effectively ended. The campaign’s new focus is on motivating Democratic voters amid concerns regarding their enthusiasm compared to Trump supporters.

Washington Examiner Investigations Editor Sarah Bedford continued to warn Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign that it is “out of runway” to convince voters to come to its side.
With a little over a week left until Election Day, Harris has changed her campaign strategy to attacking her opponent, former President Donald Trump, with accusations that he is akin to Adolf Hitler and a fascist. Harris has only been on the campaign since July, while Trump has been running since November 2022 and most recently held a rally in Madison Square Garden.

“Trying to demonize [Trump’s] big rally is somehow out-of-bounds because of the Nazi rally almost 100 years ago is just part and parcel of the Democratic closing argument, which is trying to scare their otherwise unenthusiastic base into showing up at the polls,” Bedford said Monday on Fox Business’s Cavuto Coast to Coast. “They are not really any longer trying to make the case for Kamala Harris. The persuasion period of the election is pretty much over at this point. Now it’s just about turning out the party faithful and trying to overcome the enthusiasm gap that Donald Trump has.”
While there was criticisms of the things said over the rally’s podium by other speakers, the enthusiasm for Trump was undeniable as he spoke inside a packed Madison Square Garden on Sunday, which has a maximum capacity of 19,500. The event center is in the middle of the Democratic stronghold of New York City.
“So what you don’t hear from Kamala Harris anymore is her trying to make the case for herself on the merits, that she can do better on the economy and that she can do better on immigration. That’s not what we hear from Kamala Harris,” Bedford said. “It’s just about scaring voters into voting against Donald Trump at this point because that is the only card she has left to play this late in the game. She’s just out of runway.”
This strategy comes as the slight lead Harris once held is slipping away. A RealClearPolitics poll average from Monday afternoon showed Trump has a slight 0.1-percentage-point lead.
