Peter Navarro reports to prison to begin four-month ‘contempt of Congress’ sentence

Former Trump administration trade adviser Peter Navarro reported to prison ahead of his 2 p.m. deadline on Tuesday to start his four-month sentence in Miami.

Navarro was convicted of defying a congressional subpoena in September after he failed to testify and turn over documents related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

However, courts have rejected the claims, as there isn’t evidence Trump claimed any kind of privilege over their communications.

“When I walk in that prison today, the justice system — such as it is — will have done a crippling blow to the constitutional separation of powers and executive privilege,” Navarro told reporters on Tuesday before surrendering at the federal prison.

The former Trump official attempted to delay his prison sentence multiple times while he went through the appeal process, but Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts rejected the stay on Monday, claiming he saw no reason to disagree with an appeals court decision that denied Navarro’s request to remain free.

Navarro is now the second Trump ally to be sentenced to prison after former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison for the same thing. Bannon has been allowed to remain free while his appeal is pending.
