Piers Morgan Maintains Meghan Markle Interview A ‘Whine-A-Thon’
After being forced out of “Good Morning Britain,” television host Piers Morgan has not backed down from his intense criticism of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry following their interview with Oprah Winfrey in early March.
Speaking with Tucker Carlson on “Tucker Carlson Today,” Morgan said he still does not believe Meghan Markle’s claims against the Royal Family, most specifically, her charges of racism.
“I still don’t believe what they were saying and in particular I don’t believe what Meghan Markle said,” Morgan said, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter (THR).
As for the claims that Markle felt suicidal during her time with the Royal Family, Morgan said that “it’s not for me to say that she felt suicidal; that’s not for me to know.” However, he did doubt that the Royal Family institution ignored her pleas for help. He was pointed in his criticism of her charge that a high-ranking member of the family raised concerns about Markle’s son Archie’s skin color and demanded she name the culprit.
“If you’re going to accuse someone of racism, then you better put up some facts,” he asserted. “My problem with this whole interview was these incredibly damaging allegations were tossed out there and none of them were challenged properly.”
“I should be able to be a journalist and question the veracity of those statements,” he later added.
Later, Morgan criticized Meghan and Harry for signing deals with Netflix and Spotify, accusing them of benefiting off their ties to the Royal Family without losing their titles.
“They’re getting them because they’re the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they’re getting them off their royal titles, the royal titles bestowed on them by the very institution that in the interview with Oprah Winfrey they say they can’t stand and is suffocating and traps them and so on and so on. But you can’t have it both ways,” he said.
In the same interview, Morgan also stressed that Western democracy has been threatened by the prevalence of cancel culture.
“If we lose the right to have an opinion, the right to respect other opinions, then ultimately democracy dies. It’s the bedrock of democracy,” Morgan said, as reported by the Daily Mail.
“You then become something different, you become a totalitarian state run by an illiberal mob, who are the new fascists. Is that what anybody wants? Do liberals want that? I don’t want that, I’m a liberal,” added Morgan.
Morgan referred to cancel culture as a “liberal form of fascism.”
“I don’t believe any Americans I’ve met on my travels would be comfortable with what is happening here. What happened to me, to Sharon Osbourne, to the editor of Teen Vogue. None of this seems American to me. It’s the country of freedoms; it’s the country of the Constitutional right to have an opinion,” he said.
“This is not why our countries went to war with a fascist group like the Nazis. And yet here we are with a new liberal form of fascism, where you either sign up to a fake narrative, you either believe something that is untrue, or you have to be destroyed. Isn’t that what fascism is? Isn’t that the purest personification of fascism?” he continued.
