60-year-old man arrested for Tupac Shakur’s murder, police announce.
Grand Jury Indicts Duane “Keffe D” Davis for Tupac Shakur’s Murder
In a stunning development, a Clark County grand jury has voted to indict 60-year-old Duane “Keffe D” Davis for the murder of rap legend Tupac Shakur, a crime that occurred 27 years ago. Law enforcement officials made the announcement during a press conference on Friday, leaving the world in shock.
The breakthrough in the case came after a search warrant was executed at Davis’ home in July by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The authorities seized a plethora of evidence, including tablets, computers, a cell phone, hard drives, and photos, among other items.
Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill emphasized that Davis’ arrest is just the beginning of the investigation, stating that it is “far from over.” He revealed that Davis’ remarks in 2018 played a crucial role in ”reinvigorating” the case, leading to this significant development.
Metro Lt. Jason Johansson praised the relentless efforts of the detectives involved in the case, highlighting their unwavering persistence as the key factor that ultimately paid off and led to Davis’ arrest.
The Feud and the Fatal Night
“Prior to September 7, 1996, as we all know, Tupac Shakur was an artist who had signed with Death Row Records, closely affiliated with the Mob Piru criminal street gangs. They had an ongoing feud with the South Side Compton Crips,” explained Johansson. “Dwayne Davis was the leader and shot caller of the South Side Compton Crips, and both of these gangs operated out of the Southern California area of Compton.”
On September 7, 1996, Shakur was tragically shot four times in Las Vegas after attending a Mike Tyson fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. He fought for his life for six days before succumbing to his injuries.
A Retaliatory Shooting
“Members of the South Side Compton Crips, including Dwayne Davis and his nephew Orlando Anderson, were also present at the same event,” Johansson revealed. “As they were leaving the fight, members of Death Row Records spotted Orlando Anderson near an elevator bay bank inside the MGM and began to attack him.”
Johansson presented security camera footage from the fight, showing Shakur and other members of Death Row Records assaulting Anderson near the elevator.

The Tragic Turn of Events
“Little did anyone know that this incident right here would ultimately lead to the retaliatory shooting and death of Tupac Shakur,” Johansson stated. “Following this incident, Tupac and Suge Knight left the MGM to attend a post-fight party at a local nightclub. Meanwhile, word had spread among the South Side Compton Crips about what had happened inside the MGM, prompting Dwayne Davis to devise a plan for revenge against Suge Knight and Mr. Shakur.”
After obtaining a firearm, Davis, along with Terrence Brown, DeAndre Smith, and Orlando Anderson, got into a white Cadillac. Davis then handed the gun to the passengers in the rear seat of the vehicle.
The four men located the black BMW carrying Knight and Shakur, pulled up alongside it, and opened fire.
Johansson revealed that detectives had known most of this information within the first few months of the investigation. However, they lacked the necessary evidence to bring forth criminal charges.
“But it wasn’t until 2018 that this case was reinvigorated with additional evidence related to this homicide,” Johansson explained. He pointed out that Davis had made statements to multiple media outlets, allegedly admitting his involvement in the murder.
When asked about the specific statements that caught investigators’ attention, Sheriff McMahill declined to provide further details.

What will be the next steps in the legal process following Davis’s indictment for the murder of Tupac Shakur
Ealed. “Based on witness accounts and evidence, it is believed that the shooting of Tupac Shakur was a retaliatory act in response to a confrontation that occurred earlier that evening between Shakur, Anderson, and other members of the Mob Piru. Davis, as the leader of the South Side Compton Crips, orchestrated the attack.”
Davis has been a person of interest in the case for many years, but it was not until his 2018 interview with documentary series “Unsolved” that new evidence and information came to light. In the interview, Davis admitted to being in the car when the shooting took place but claimed he was not the one who pulled the trigger.
The case of Tupac Shakur’s murder has captivated the public for decades, with numerous theories and speculations surrounding the identity of the shooter and the motive behind the crime. The indictment of Duane “Keffe D” Davis brings renewed hope for the truth to finally be revealed.
It is important to note that an indictment is not a conviction. It is a formal accusation, and Davis is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The next steps in the legal process will involve the presentation of evidence, witness testimony, and arguments from both the prosecution and defense.
The arrest and indictment of Davis serve as a reminder that justice can be sought, even years after a crime has been committed. It is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of law enforcement officials and the impact that new evidence and information can have on a cold case.
