Former BLM organizer now Atlanta mayor arrested by police.
The Mayor of South Fulton Arrested and Charged
The mayor of a city on metro Atlanta’s southern side was recently involved in a controversial incident. Khalid Kamau, who has been serving as South Fulton’s mayor since 2021, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and first-degree burglary.
The incident occurred when Kamau was found inside a house along Cascade Palmetto Highway by the homeowner. According to local news outlet WSB-TV, the homeowner allegedly held Kamau at gunpoint until the police arrived.
Released on Bond
After his arrest, Kamau was released on an $11,000 bond. He explained to the police that he had entered the house before 7:00 a.m. because he was interested in purchasing it.
Kamau took to Facebook to address the situation, writing, “Hey y’all i’m good. i’m free. God is still using me. Stay tuned,” alongside a graphic of the Bible verse Matthew 5:10.
South Fulton Responds
In response to the incident, South Fulton issued a statement on Sunday to address the concerns raised by the recent allegations involving Mayor Khalid Kamau.
The statement assured the public that the mayor has returned home and is expected to resume his service for the city. They requested that everyone keep the mayor, council, and the entire city in their thoughts and prayers.
Interim City Manager Sharon D. Subadan emphasized the city’s commitment to serving the community, stating, “We will continue to ensure that our operations are conducted with the highest standards.”
Kamau, who is a self-proclaimed Black Lives Matter activist, had previously served on the city council since 2017. South Fulton, with a population of 108,000 residents, is Georgia’s fifth-largest city and was incorporated in the same year Kamau was elected to its council.
