An Oklahoma woman, Jaye Dee Watts, has been arrested and is facing serious charges for her alleged involvement in her elderly mother’s suicide. Her mother, who suffered from dementia, took her own life using a gun that Watts provided.
The arrest was made after an investigation by the Oklahoma City Police Department, as reported by KOCO-TV. According to the police bulletin, Watts intentionally gave her mother the firearm, which ultimately led to her tragic decision.
Watts claimed that her mother had previously asked her to shoot her, but she refused. However, later on, Watts allegedly retrieved a loaded handgun from her vehicle, showed her mother how to use it, and callously left the room, saying, “Do with it what you f***ing will.”

Shortly after, Watts heard gunshots coming from her mother’s bedroom. She found her mother dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. During police questioning, Watts admitted to providing the gun and making statements that encouraged her mother to use it.
Disturbing video evidence from inside the home showed Watts mocking her mother’s dementia and subjecting her to verbal abuse. Additional footage revealed Watts locking her mother inside her bedroom around the time of the fatal gunshots.
In text messages after the incident, Watts referred to their actions as a “cleanse” and admitted to deliberately placing the gun on her mother’s bed, telling her to do as she pleased with it.
Watts, who described herself as a 24/7 caregiver, voluntarily surrendered to authorities and has posted a $1 million bond. She now faces charges of second-degree felony murder by caretaker abuse and kidnapping.
While Watts is entitled to the presumption of innocence, if the allegations against her are proven true, this case represents a disturbing lack of respect, compassion, and duty towards our elders, especially those like Lynda Watts, who suffered from dementia.
Not an acceptable way to treat a parent who brought her into the world, nurtured, housed, protected, fed, clothed, and educated her. She’s a pathetically poor example of a human being.
