Political parties must address election complaints raised by losing candidates, according to the Georgia Secretary of State.

Georgia Secretary of State Urges Addressing Claims of Election Fraud

Georgia’s Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, emphasizes the importance of addressing claims of election fraud made by losing candidates from both political parties. He believes that such claims are detrimental to the fabric of American society and must be confronted.

Raffensperger spoke about this issue during a conference in Chicago on April 27, where he stressed the need for political parties to take responsibility for their candidates’ actions. He also highlighted the significance of understanding election laws for accurate election reporting.

Becoming Subject Matter Experts

Raffensperger recommends that journalists become subject matter experts in election laws to better understand the nuances of the election process. This knowledge will enable them to identify attempts to shift blame for losing strategies.

Former President Donald Trump’s claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election have dominated headlines, but Raffensperger believes that the $787.5 million settlement between Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems has debunked most of these claims.

Building Confidence in Elections

Raffensperger, who was at the center of the 2020 election controversies, believes that calmly answering questions face-to-face has done more to engender confidence in Georgia’s voters than most news broadcasts. He emphasizes the importance of politicians taking responsibility and engaging with voters directly.

He has reached out to nonpartisan civic groups in his state, such as the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, to provide clear answers and address concerns. Raffensperger believes that voters are smart and deserve the truth.

Combatting Disinformation

Raffensperger identifies disinformation as a major issue, with consultants often unwilling to admit their candidate’s loss. He warns that this can lead to the promotion of ineffective policies.

Regarding calls for a return to paper ballots for security, Raffensperger believes it would further erode public confidence in elections. He highlights that electronic voting machines already include paper ballots, ensuring a verifiable record.

Raffensperger’s approach of open dialogue and transparency aims to restore trust in the electoral process, following the controversies of the 2020 election.
