Poll exposes Americans’ views on Biden’s age, but opinions drastically shift when Trump is mentioned.
Majority of Americans Believe Biden is Too Old to Govern, Poll Shows
An overwhelming majority of Americans believe that President Joe Biden, at 80 years old, is too old to effectively govern. This sentiment was revealed in a recent poll released on Monday by The Associated Press/NORC. Interestingly, the poll also found that not as many Americans hold the same view regarding former President Donald Trump, who is only three years younger than Biden.
The poll showed that 77 percent of those surveyed believe Biden is too old to serve another four-year term in the White House, compared to 51 percent for Trump. This is a significant concern considering that Biden is already the oldest U.S. president in history. If re-elected, he would be 86 at the end of his second term. In contrast, Trump, who is 77, would be 82 at the end of his second term if he were to win the GOP primary race and the 2024 general election.
Biden’s age is not only a concern for Republicans but also for a majority of Democrats. According to the survey, 89 percent of Republicans and 69 percent of Democrats listed Biden’s age as a top concern. Additionally, 85 percent of those worried about the president’s age expressed that they do not want to see him run for president in 2024.

While concerns about Biden’s age are held across all age groups, younger Democrats are more concerned than those over 45, according to the poll. However, despite these concerns, a majority of young Democrats stated that they would still likely vote for Biden if he becomes the nominee in 2024.
Biden’s age has been a widely reported concern throughout his term, and it has intensified since he announced his re-election bid. Some Democrats have expressed frustration with his candidacy due to his age and low approval ratings, and they are seeking an alternative candidate for the party in 2024.
In terms of the 2024 national Democratic primary, Biden is currently leading with 65.8 percent, followed by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at 12.8 percent and self-help author Marianne Williamson at 6.2 percent, according to the RealClearPolitics average based on polls conducted between Aug. 2 and Aug. 26. On the other hand, Trump is leading in the GOP race with 53 percent, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as his closest competitor at 13 percent.
The AP/NORC poll also revealed that a majority of Americans believe there should be age limits for high-level government positions such as president, the Supreme Court, and Congress.
The poll surveyed 1,165 adults across the country from Aug. 10 to Aug. 14 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 points.
