Survey Indicates Larry Hogan Ahead of Democratic Opponents in Maryland Senate Contest
A recent poll unveiled a compelling narrative in the Maryland Senate race, showcasing former governor Larry Hogan (R.) as the frontrunner against his Democratic contenders, boasting a noteworthy double-digit lead.
Hogan Molds Strong Lead
- If the election unfolded today, Hogan would secure the vacant Senate seat, trumping top Democratic hopefuls Rep. David Trone (Md.) and county executive Angela Alsobrooks.
- Hogan’s dominance in the poll paints a vivid picture, outscoring Trone 49% to 37% and Alsobrooks 50% to 36% among 1,004 registered Maryland voters.
Maryland voters, though leaning towards Democratic Senate control by 20 percentage points, reveal Hogan’s popularity over his Democratic counterparts, with more than three-fifths of voters viewing him favorably.
Professor Michael Hanmer, head of the University of Maryland’s research center, noted the key challenge for Democrats, citing the lack of recognition for Trone and Alsobrooks among state residents.
The recent poll follows an Emerson College survey showing Hogan’s lead over Alsobrooks and a neck-and-neck scenario with Trone, setting the stage for an engaging primary.
