Porsche restores Jesus statue in ad after removal.
Porsche Releases Updated Ad Featuring Statue of Jesus Christ
Germany-based automaker Porsche has unveiled a new version of their ad, which caused controversy after the original version removed a statue of Jesus Christ. The ad, released on Sunday, now includes the iconic Cristo Rei statue located in Lisbon, Portugal.
“In an early version of a film created in Europe, the Cristo Rei Statue does not appear,” Porsche stated. “We are truly sorry and can fully understand the hurt this has caused. This film has been removed.”
The absence of the statue was first noticed by a user on X, the popular social media platform. However, Porsche quickly rectified the situation by reintroducing the statue in the updated ad.
The advertisement was created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911 and showcased their 911 S/T model.
The Cristo Rei statue, standing at an impressive 90 feet tall with a 270-foot pedestal, was built in 1959. It depicts Jesus with outstretched arms, overlooking the city of Lisbon, Portugal.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Porsche for further comment.
