Portland police don’t suspect a serial killer in the deaths of 6 women.
Portland Police Address “Online Rumors” of Serial Killer
The Pacific Northwest has a dark history of serial killers, but recent deaths of six women within 100 miles of each other have sparked fear that a new killer may be on the loose. However, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is trying to calm the community by stating that there is no evidence to support the rumors of a serial killer.
“While any premature death is concerning, and we will diligently investigate deaths that happen in our jurisdiction in collaboration with the Multnomah County and Oregon State Medical Examiner’s offices, PPB has no reason to believe these 6 cases are connected,” the statement continued.
The police are still investigating the deaths of Kristin Smith and Ashley Real, and the cause of death has not been determined in either case. In a third case, the body of an unidentified woman was found in a tent, and the cause of death is still being determined by a medical examiner.
Fact-Checking Before Sharing
The PPB is asking the community to be aware of the facts before sharing speculation about the recent deaths. They are assuring the public that if there is any danger, they will notify the community. The PPB is coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to ensure justice for all crime victims.
“We ask that our community be aware of the facts about these cases before sharing speculation,” the statement said. “PPB is assuring our community that if we learn of an articulable danger, we will notify the public about it. PPB will continue to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to ensure we are doing all we can to pursue justice for any and all crime victims.”
It is important to fact-check before sharing information about sensitive topics like these. Let’s trust the authorities to do their job and keep the community safe.
