Gunman Dead After Lockdown at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center
The Portland Police Bureau has confirmed that a gunman, who caused a lockdown at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center on Saturday afternoon, is dead. The incident ended with an exchange of gunfire between the shooter and officers.
Authorities reported that the shooter fled the hospital after fatally shooting a security guard, triggering a manhunt that lasted for several hours.
Victim Identified as Bobby Smallwood
The victim, identified as Bobby Smallwood, tragically succumbed to his injuries despite the efforts of medical personnel. Legacy Health president and CEO, Kathryn Correia, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended support to Smallwood’s loved ones, patients, and staff affected by the incident.
“Words cannot express the profound grief we are experiencing,” Correia said. “We offer our unwavering support to Bobby’s loved ones, to our patients in our care, to the staff at Legacy Good Samaritan, and to all of our employees and providers suffering today.”
Police Response and Updates
The Special Emergency Reaction Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were dispatched to the hospital in northwest Portland, Oregon, around 11 a.m. PDT. The Portland Fire Bureau also provided assistance in the emergency room.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler assured the public that he was receiving updates from authorities and would continue to share information about the ongoing investigation.
Bus Services Resumed
During the police activity, bus services were briefly interrupted but later resumed in the afternoon.
