Portugal’s Prime⁤ Minister has resigned after facing allegations of involvement in‌ corruption.

Brazilian federal police conducted investigations at five different locations‌ on Tuesday, including the Portuguese Consulate ⁤Antonio Costa in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as⁣ part of their corruption probe.

Accompanied by Portuguese public⁢ prosecutors and security agents, ⁤the Brazilian officers were investigating concessions granted for lithium mining and hydrogen⁢ production.

Furthermore, Portuguese ⁢authorities were looking into allegations ⁢of⁣ corruption and document falsification in collaboration with⁢ individuals seeking visas‌ and⁢ Portuguese citizenships, according to a statement by prosecutors.

The prosecutors also issued detention warrants ‌for five individuals in Brazil, including Costa’s chief of staff, Vitor Escaria.

This development‌ follows ⁣a‌ series of corruption-related raids in Portugal, with nearly 150 detectives searching 17 residential ⁤properties and 25 other premises so far.

Portuguese prosecutors have been investigating alleged corruption and influence peddling in lithium mining concessions in northern Portugal, as well as a hydrogen production ‌project.

However, the federal police’s press office clarified that the searches in⁤ Brazil were unrelated to the raids in Portugal and are not connected to Costa’s resignation.
