The consumer health company Haleon has issued a nationwide recall of certain Robitussin products, which are commonly used to treat cough, flu, and sore throat symptoms. This recall is due to a microbiological contamination that poses a potential risk to consumers.
With the cold and flu season approaching, this recall couldn’t have come at a worse time.
The recall affects eight lots of Robitussin Honey CF Max Day and Max Night cough syrup, available in four- and eight-ounce bottles. The affected products have expiration dates set for May 2025 or June 2026.
According to the FDA press release, individuals with weakened immune systems may be particularly vulnerable to the contamination, which could lead to serious and potentially fatal conditions such as blood fungal infections.
However, the FDA states that individuals without compromised immune systems are unlikely to be at risk of developing these life-threatening conditions. Nevertheless, there is still a possibility of infection that may require medical intervention.
The recall specifically includes the following lots:
“Consumer safety and product quality are our utmost priorities at Haleon,” the company said in a statement to ABC News on Thursday. “After a thorough investigation, a root cause has been identified, and we are implementing corrective and preventative actions to ensure that this does not recur.”
