GOP hopeful withdraws, acknowledges Trump’s surprising lead.
Republican Governor Chris Sununu Decides Against 2024 Presidential Bid
Republican New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has announced that he will not be running for president in 2024. This news may disappoint the ladies of ABC’s “The View,” who seemed to be more interested in his moderate establishment politics than Republican voters were.
Sununu had been considering a run to take the GOP back from former President Donald Trump, but he ultimately decided against it. Trump currently has a big lead in early polls, and Sununu acknowledged that he was doing much better than people thought.
In part citing Donald Trump, Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) says he will not run for the Republican presidential ticket in 2024:

While Sununu won’t be running for president, he plans to be active in the primary and focus on taking down Trump and encouraging others in the party to stay out of the culture war. He believes that the future of the Republican Party lies in bringing independents and young people onto the ticket and expanding beyond the culture wars that alienate them.
Although Sununu may have felt that there was a path to victory for him, he ultimately decided that he could have more influence on the future of the Republican Party and the 2024 nominating process as the governor of the first-in-the-nation primary state. He plans to speak candidly about issues, candidates, and the direction of the party, untethered from the limitations of a presidential campaign and unleashed from conventional boundaries.
While Sununu may have made friends on the left during his brief flirtation with a presidential run, he was never on anyone’s radar as a serious candidate. Republicans need a nominee who will fight the culture war battles on their behalf and defend ideals such as decency and civility.
The soul of the country hangs in the balance, and Sununu’s decision not to run for president will hopefully clear the way for serious candidates to pitch messages that conservative voters actually want to hear.
