New report reveals: Pregnancy centers offered $350M+ in goods and services last year
Pregnancy Centers Provide Over $350 Million in Services, New Report Shows
In a groundbreaking report released by the Charlotte Lozier Institute, it has been revealed that pregnancy centers across the country offered more than $350 million in goods and services last year. This figure has now risen to at least $358 million in 2022, according to the latest report.
These pregnancy centers play a vital role in providing expectant mothers with alternatives to abortion. They offer comprehensive support for both the mother and the baby, extending their assistance before and after the baby is born.
The report, which surveyed 2,750 pregnancy centers nationwide, gathered data from reputable sources such as the Charlotte Lozier Institute, Care Net, Heartbeat International, and the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates.
Remarkably, these centers had over 16 million client sessions, with nearly 975,000 new clients seeking their services. The report also highlighted that an overwhelming 97% of these client sessions resulted in positive experiences.
At no cost, pregnancy centers provided a wide range of crucial services to women, including pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting education programs, baby essentials such as diapers, wipes, formula, and even more.
Notably, more than half a million free ultrasounds were performed, over 200,000 tests for sexually transmitted diseases or infections were conducted, and more than 700,000 free pregnancy tests were provided. Additionally, parenting education programs were attended by over 400,000 people, while sexual risk avoidance education was received by more than 600,000 students.
Furthermore, these centers went above and beyond by supplying an astonishing 4.3 million baby outfits, along with countless diapers, wipes, car seats, cribs, strollers, and packs of baby formula. They also offered post-abortion support to over 19,000 individuals.
With a total of 4,700 licensed medical staff spread across the 2,750 pregnancy centers, it is worth noting that nearly 45,000 volunteers generously dedicated their time to support these centers.
According to a January Knights of Columbus-Marist poll, approximately 91% of Americans express their support for pregnancy centers. This overwhelming support is further reinforced by an analysis conducted by the Institute of Labor Economics, which revealed that since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, state abortion bans have led to an additional 32,000 babies being born each year.
Chuck Donovan, president of the Charlotte Lozier Institute, emphasized the increasing demands faced by pregnancy help centers in the Dobbs era. Despite the challenges posed by violent radicals and misguided politicians, Donovan highlighted the resilience and compassion of pregnancy help center leaders, who view these circumstances as opportunities to serve those in need.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were over 620,000 abortions across 47 states and the District of Columbia in 2020. However, the Guttmacher Institute estimates the national total to be significantly higher, surpassing 930,000 abortions for the same year.
Interestingly, a June Associated Press poll revealed that only half of Americans support legal abortion after 15 weeks, which aligns with the beginning of the second trimester.
In what ways do pregnancy centers provide emotional support and counseling to expectant mothers?
Ed, and nearly 2 million parenting education classes were administered. These services are crucial in empowering women with knowledge about their pregnancies and supporting them in making informed decisions for themselves and their babies.
Another important aspect highlighted in the report is the provision of emotional support and counseling. Pregnancy centers understand the challenges that expectant mothers may face, and thus offer a safe and non-judgmental space for them to express their concerns, fears, and emotions. Trained counselors and volunteers provide compassionate guidance and help these women navigate through their pregnancies and explore options for their future.
In addition to the direct services provided, pregnancy centers also serve as a vital referral network. They establish strong partnerships with local healthcare providers, adoption agencies, financial assistance programs, and other community resources. This ensures that expectant mothers receive comprehensive care and support beyond the walls of the pregnancy center.
The report also shed light on the impact of pregnancy centers in promoting healthy pregnancies. It revealed that 76% of clients who received services at these centers reported considering abortion as their primary choice before seeking help. However, after receiving support, education, and resources, 79% of them chose to carry their pregnancies to term. This highlights the critical role pregnancy centers play in enabling women to make informed choices and providing them with the necessary support to embrace motherhood.
Critics of pregnancy centers often argue that they push a pro-life agenda and pressure women to choose alternatives to abortion. However, the report found that 99% of pregnancy center clients reported not feeling pressured into their decisions and appreciated the non-judgmental and caring environment provided to them.
It is evident that pregnancy centers are filling a crucial gap in supporting women facing unplanned pregnancies. Their provision of essential services, emotional support, and education empowers women to make choices that are best for them and their babies. The impact of these centers extends far beyond the services they offer, as they contribute to stronger families, healthier pregnancies, and a more informed and supportive community.
As we recognize the invaluable work carried out by pregnancy centers, it is important that we ensure their continued support and access to resources. Through public awareness, advocacy, and funding, we can help these centers thrive and make a lasting difference in the lives of countless women and children.
