Prince Andrew Accuser’s $500,000 Settlement With Epstein Released, Makes No Mention Of Royal By Name
Despite Prince Andrew’s lawyers claiming that the previously secret 2009 agreement between his accuser, Virginia Giuffre (née Roberts), and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein would release the British royal from liability, the now-unveiled documents make no mention of Andrew by name.
“The settlement signed by Prince Andrew’s accuser that the Duke hopes will lead to the dismissal of her sex assault lawsuit against him was unsealed today,” The Daily Mail reported. “Signed in 2009, Virginia Giuffre agreed to be paid $500,000 by Jeffrey Epstein to resolve the sex abuse case against him.”
As The Daily Mail explained, while the document makes no mention of Andrew by name, it does stipulate “other potential defendants” are included in the agreement. It appears that Prince Andrew will be relying on being included in the vague category defined by “other potential defendants.”
According to that agreement: ‘Hereby release, acquit, satisfy, and forever discharge the said Second Parties and any other person or entity who could have been included as a potential defendant (‘Other Potential Defendants’) from all, and all manner of, action and actions of Virginia Roberts.”
Andrew Brettler, who represents Prince Andrew, previously told a New York hearing the agreement “releases Prince Andrew and others from any purported liability arising from the claims Ms Giuffre asserted against Prince Andrew here,” the BBC reported.
“US District Judge Lewis A Kaplan, who is presiding over the civil case, is due to hold a video teleconference on Tuesday when a request by the duke’s legal team to dismiss the case will be heard,” the BBC added.
This week, it was also reported that lawyers for Giuffre are demanding that Prince Andrew hand over documentation that proves his inability to sweat — a bizarre excuse he presented as proof that he had never met Giuffre.
According to court documents, Giuffre’s attorneys have requested information about Andrew’s “alleged medical condition of anhidrosis, hyperhidrosis” as part of an ongoing civil case against the prince in a New York court.
“Ms Giuffre, 38, alleges that Prince Andrew sexually assaulted her when she was a teenager at the homes of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell,” the BBC reported. “Prince Andrew has consistently denied the allegations.”
During a controversial interview with the BBC in 2019, Andrew claimed that he never got sweaty in a club with Giuffre in 2001 — prior to the pair allegedly having sex — citing a medical condition that would make such perspiration impossible.
“She was very specific about that night, she described dancing with you,” Emily Maitlis asked Prince Andrew in 2019. “No,” Prince Andrew responded.
“And you profusely sweating and that she went on to have bath possibly,” Maitlis continued.
“There’s a slight problem with the sweating because I have a peculiar medical condition which is that I don’t sweat or I didn’t sweat at the time and that was… was it… yes, I didn’t sweat at the time because I had suffered what I would describe as an overdose of adrenaline in the Falklands War when I was shot at and I simply… it was almost impossible for me to sweat,” Prince Andrew claimed. “And it’s only because I have done a number of things in the recent past that I am starting to be able to do that again. So I’m afraid to say that there’s a medical condition that says that I didn’t do it so therefore…”
