Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Debut First Photo Of Daughter Lilibet On New Christmas Card, Say ‘Lili Made Us A Family’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a dramatic exit from working royal life at the beginning of 2020, citing an extreme lack of privacy. Ever since, they’ve been offering glimpses into their personal lives, but only on their own terms. Royal fans were delighted by the newest tidbit the California-based couple decided to share with the public.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a photo of their family Christmas card just days before the Christmas holiday. This is especially significant because it’s the first official photo of the couple’s baby daughter, Lilibet Diana, who was born in June. The snapshot also includes a photo of a more-grown up Archie Harrison, 2, with his mop of ginger-red hair just like dad.

“This year, 2021, we welcomed our daughter, Lilibet, to the world,” the card caption reads. “Archie made us a ‘Mama’ and a ‘Papa,’ and Lili made us a family.”

The card also describes how Harry and Meghan made donations to “organizations that honor and protect families,” including “those being relocated from Afghanistan” and American families who are “in need of paid parental leave.”

Both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have become more vocal about causes they champion, which includes an emphasis on climate change initiatives. Prince Harry met with conservationist Jane Goodall and promised to limit his family to two children “maximum”  to combat overpopulation concerns. This was when he and Meghan only had Archie at home.

“What we need to remind everybody is: these are things that are happening now,” Harry told Goodall of depleting natural resources at the time, according to CNN. “We are already living in it. We are the frog in the water and it’s already been brought to the boil. Which is terrifying.”

He continued, “I view [environmental concerns] differently now, without question. But I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children.”

Goodall cautioned the prince, saying: “Not too many,” to which Harry responded: “Two, maximum.”

But the Sussexes seem thrilled with their second and apparently final child to complete the family. When Lilibet was born, they said in a statement, “She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.” Despite her parents leaving London and the royal life, Lilibet is technically eighth in line for the British throne.

The name “Lilibet” comes from a private nickname that the family has for Queen Elizabeth. Prince Harry and Meghan allegedly called Her Majesty in advance of choosing that name for their daughter to make sure she was fine with it. No one was surprised that the couple chose Diana for the baby’s middle name to honor the late Princess Diana.

When asked why they chose to quit their jobs as senior working royals, Harry cited his unhappy childhood as one of the driving factors.

“My father used to say to me when I was younger, he used to say to both William and I, ‘Well it was like that for me so it’s going to be like that for you,’” Harry said, according to The Mirror. “That doesn’t make sense. Just because you suffered doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer, in fact quite the opposite.”
