Trust the Science? Professor’s Peer-Reviewed Paper on Adolescent Trans Trend Pulled Over LGBT Activists’ Complaints
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans were repeatedly told to “trust the science.” This phrase was often used to silence any skepticism about COVID-19 vaccines. However, it seems that “the science” may not be as reliable as initially claimed, and this has nothing to do with the efficacy of the vaccines.
Professor Michael Bailey, a psychology professor at Northwestern University, recently had his peer-reviewed and scientifically researched paper retracted. The reason? It provided evidence for an idea that activists disliked. Bailey expressed his frustration in a scathing response published in The Free Press.
Bailey’s article, titled “Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria: Parent Reports on 1655 Possible Cases,” was published in the prestigious academic journal Archives of Sexual Behavior. However, it was abruptly taken down by the journal’s publisher, Springer Nature Group.
According to Springer, the paper was retracted due to “noncompliance with our editorial policies around consent.” They claimed that the participants of the survey did not provide written informed consent for their responses to be published. Bailey vehemently refuted these claims, stating that participants were informed that their data would be published.
Bailey believes that Springer caved to pressure from a group of activists who published an open letter criticizing the journal and its editor, Dr. Kenneth Zucker. The activists accused the journal of publishing articles on LGBTQ+ topics that did not adhere to high standards of intellectual integrity and publication ethics. Bailey argues that the activists’ real complaint was their dislike of certain ideas and individuals, particularly Dr. Zucker.
Dr. Zucker’s belief that gender dysphoria should be treated with psychotherapy rather than drugs and surgery has made him a target of activist ire. Bailey points out that gender dysphoria can change, unlike sexual orientation. He accuses the activists of seeking surrender rather than engaging in scientific debate.
In his response, Bailey challenges the scientific community to resist censorship and continue pursuing truth, despite pressure from puritans, ideologues, and activists.
