Protesters bring guillotine to DC for Trump inauguration

Liberal protesters gathered around Washington, D.C., to express their disapproval of President Donald Trump‘s inauguration Monday.

Trump succeeded former President Joe Biden after winning the election two months ago, which included the popular vote. Still, Trump has some outspoken adversaries. Among them were some who erected a makeshift guillotine in Malcolm X Park, also known as Meridian Hill Park.

The phrase “come get sum” was painted on the crafted 20-foot-tall structure. Meanwhile, other protesters flanked it, one dressed as an executioner with their face covered, another holding a rainbow flag, and another with a sign that read, “The revolution is now.”

The protesters followed a call from the Answer Coalition, which held several events on Inauguration Day that it referred to as the “National Day of Action.” It’s D.C.-based event began with a rally at Malcolm X Park and also marched around the city.

“The Trump victory in the 2024 election represents the complete failure of the Democratic Party to stop the rise of the ultra-right. In fact, they have contributed to it by adopting much of the program of the extreme right while embracing endless war. Instead of responding to the needs of the people, both the Democrats and the Republicans have moved further and further to the right,” says Answer Coalition’s website.

“But we can defeat the Trump program. Not by following the Democratic Party establishment, but by building a massive movement against the ruling class and the political system that gives everything to billionaires while impoverishing an ever larger section of the population,” says the website.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Answer Coalition for comment.

The protest followed a small group of pro-Palestinian protesters who interrupted the viewing of Trump’s inauguration at Capital One Arena. Just as Trump concluded his broadcast remarks, a group of protesters began chanting “Free Palestine.” Almost immediately, counterprotesters drowned them out with chants of “USA.”
