Publisher Walks Back Woke Censoring of Roald Dahl’s Classic Stories, Will Release Original Text as Well
After backlash, Puffin, a book publisher, announced that it will retract its woke rewrites Roald Dahl’s classic children’s books.

The total number of 17 titles that will be published includes Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG, Fantastic Mr Fox, James and The Giant Peach: The Witches, These and many other items. Books will also include “archive material relevant to each of the stories,” According to the press release. They will be made available in the second half of this year.
Puffin had earlier this week announced its collaboration with the Roald Dahl Stories Co., which manages trademarks and copyrights. This collaboration allowed for hundreds of modifications to Dahl’s original works to be made in order to not offend anyone. The Roald Dahl Story Co. admitted they had worked with Inclusive Minds, which monitors children’s literature for inclusion, diversity, and accessibility, The Washington Post reported. The backlash to the woke revisions was quick and fierce. It included none other that Camilla the Queen Consort. Ben Shapiro, editor emeritus at Daily Wire, summarized much of Tuesday’s reaction to the move. “Rewriting Roald Dahl to remove the nastiness and meanness removes half the charm of the books,” Shapiro Tweet. “The whole point of the books is that the world is filled with nastiness and meanness, and children have to learn to navigate it in adventurous ways.”
