‘Quantico’ Star Says Criticism of New Christmas Movie Has Surprisingly Come from Christians
‘Quantico’ Star Surprised by Christian Backlash Against New Christmas Movie
Alan Powell, known for his role in “Quantico,” co-produced the faith-based film “Journey to Bethlehem” which tells the story of Jesus’ birth. However, Powell has been taken aback by the negative reception from some Christian outlets.
“We made this movie with so much passion and love for this story. I was raised in the Church… I was in a Christian band. I’ve acted in faith-based movies, and this is a movie about the birth of Christ,” said Powell, the son of a former Baptist megachurch pastor in Nashville.
“It’s something that we truthfully didn’t see coming and are bit confounded by, quite frankly. I mean, we absolutely hold this story reverently. We believe in this film,” he added.
“Journey to Bethlehem” is a joint venture of Monarch Media and Affirm Films, a division of Sony. It has received positive reviews from audiences, with a 94 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an A- CinemaScore.
However, some Christian outlets have criticized the film for adding material not found in the Bible. Powell explained, “We’re coming up against some resistance from some people who are purists in a way and feel like we filled in gaps in ways that they’re unhappy with.”
He hopes that moviegoers will be encouraged by the film’s message and continue to support it in theaters.
“Journey to Bethlehem” features Antonio Banderas as King Herod, Fiona Palomo as Mary, and Milo Manheim as Joseph. The film has a similar feel to “High School Musical” and has been a passion project for director Adam Anders for about 10 years.
Powell shared the theme of the story, saying, “God has bigger plans for you than you even have for yourself.” He hopes that viewers will be inspired by the film’s message of purpose and faith.

What does Alan Powell hope viewers will judge “Journey to Bethlehem” on and how does he believe it can touch people’s lives and remind them of the true meaning of Christmas
Who believe that any additions or interpretations of the biblical story are inherently wrong.” He went on to clarify that the film is not meant to be an exact retelling of the nativity, but rather a creative imagining of the events surrounding it.
Despite the backlash, Powell remains proud of the film and stands by its message. He emphasized that the intention was never to deviate from the biblical account, but rather to bring a fresh perspective to the story and highlight the human aspect of Jesus’ birth.
Furthermore, Powell believes that the negative reaction from some Christian outlets reflects a broader issue within the faith community. He expressed concern that certain segments of Christianity have become overly rigid and unwilling to embrace different interpretations or artistic expressions of the gospel.
He stated, ”I fear that we as believers sometimes miss the opportunity to reach people who are hurting and looking for hope because we’re too focused on nitpicking and criticizing each other’s efforts.” Powell hopes that the film can bridge the gap between those who may feel disconnected from traditional church settings and the message of Christ.
Ultimately, Powell hopes that audiences will judge the film on its own merits and the intentions behind it. He wants viewers to approach ”Journey to Bethlehem” with an open mind and heart, ready to experience a different retelling of the nativity story.
As Christmas approaches, Powell’s fervent wish is that the film will touch people’s lives and remind them of the true meaning of the holiday. He hopes it will inspire conversations and further exploration of faith for those who may have been disenchanted with religion.
In conclusion, Alan Powell, star of ”Quantico” and co-producer of “Journey to Bethlehem,” has expressed surprise at the Christian backlash against the film. Despite the criticism, Powell stands by the movie’s message and believes that it offers a fresh perspective on Jesus’ birth. He hopes that audiences will approach the film with open hearts and minds and ultimately be touched by its portrayal of the nativity story.
