R. Emmett Tyrrell: Biden’s Document Deluge
WASHINGTON — Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba of Uganda has announced to the world via his Twitter account that he is offering Italy’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, a dowry of 100 cows if she will marry him. Kainerugaba, the 48-year old son of Uganda’s prime Minister, is very serious and is especially respected in Uganda. Our president Joe Biden was informed by Merrick Garland (his attorney general) that top-secret documents were discovered in his garage in Delaware. This is the garage where he keeps his 1967 Chevrolet Corvette. It was the third time that classified documents were discovered in the president’s home. Now, people are starting to question. Over the weekend, another batch of documents was discovered. Next week will be a new week. What will happen to the deluge of documents?
Which story is more absurd, the general’s of the president? The president’s story is, frankly, more absurd, especially when you consider the Corvette bit, which is metallic green, that the president keeps under lock-and-key in his garage with classified documents and God only know what else. A few blocks from the White House, Joe also found classified documents in the Chinese-funded think tank the Penn Biden Center. The documents were left by the president in his transition period, before he became president. According to the president, it was a busy time. But, what were the documents doing there in first place? Republicans want to know. There may be some outliers in media who also want to know.
Let’s face the facts, America is quickly becoming a banana republic. Many of us who knew Joe for many years worried that he would fall asleep in the Oval Office when he first arrived at the White House. After watching him for a few years, we are worried that he won’t fall asleep in Oval Office. He will continue to blunder on until he commits an absolutely catastrophic error, like with the Russians or Red Chinese.
How did it all start? Washington, D.C. became the site of slipshod work, misplaced documents, runaway budgets, and legislation which had to be passed, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi stated. “so you can find out what’s in it.” Donald Trump, perhaps in his golf bags, left secret documents lying around Mar-a-Lago. Barack Obama? To lose your most sensitive documents, you don’t need to be an American President. In 2016, Hillary Clinton lost track of thousands of documents stored on her private server. Some of these documents are still missing from her private server. If I remember correctly, she brought the Russians into her problems. Her scheme worked. Poor Donald was left to be entangled with the Russians throughout his presidency.
It all started with Richard Nixon’s presidency. The Nixon presidency was before the formal rules were followed and the informal rules. Formal rules refer to ethics, law and virtues that a politician is admired for. The informal rules refer to what Watergate was called. “dirty tricks” These are dark acts. If caught, they can lead to a politician being impeached or sentenced to prison. Nixon believed he was practicing informal politics in the same way Lyndon B. Johnson did informal politics. When Barry Goldwater’s phone was tapped, and the Kennedys began to perform surveillance, Nixon thought that Nixon was doing so. However, Democrats do informal politics better than Republicans.
People started to look into Nixon’s behavior, starting with the FBI and CIA, then eventually his predecessor. The six books, known as the Church Committee Report, were where the investigators filed their findings. It was published on April 29, 1976. I was convinced that informal politics can be used to elect presidents. This refers to the shady practices that were occasionally used by every president since Franklin D. Roosevelt, including the avuncular Ike.
Unfortunately, American presidents have become more careless in their work habits. It is clear that classified documents are handled in a way that is incredibly careless. It is time to have a fight.
