Raffensperger highlights Georgia’s secure voter list while Trump persists with ‘fraud’ allegations.
Georgia Secretary of State Announces Updates to Voter Lists
Republican Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has made an important announcement regarding the state’s voter lists. In an effort to maintain the integrity of Georgia’s elections, Raffensperger revealed that updates will be conducted to ensure the accuracy of the records.
Raffensperger stated that 183,584 voter records, belonging to individuals who have not voted since before the 2018 elections, will be moved to inactive status if they fail to respond to a mailed notice. If no action is taken by Dec. 31, 2026, these individuals will be removed from the lists in 2027 as part of the ongoing efforts to clean up the voter rolls.
Commitment to Clean and Efficient Elections
Raffensperger emphasized the importance of maintaining clean voter lists, stating that Georgia’s lists are among the cleanest in the nation. He attributed this achievement to the state’s membership with the Electronic Registration and Information Center (ERIC).
“Clean lists not only alleviate the burden on our counties but also ensure that each precinct has the necessary resources and that voters have a smooth experience at the polls,” Raffensperger explained.
Trump’s Criticism and Raffensperger’s Response
Raffensperger’s announcement comes amidst ongoing criticism from former President Donald Trump regarding Georgia’s election systems. Trump has been indicted in Fulton County on racketeering charges related to his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election in the state.
In response, Trump vowed to present a report on alleged fraud in the 2020 Georgia election. However, Raffensperger remains steadfast in his commitment to the rule of law and the principles of a strong democracy.
Governor Kemp’s Rejection of Trump’s Claims
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, a Republican, firmly rejected Trump’s claims of a stolen election. He stated that for nearly three years, no evidence of fraud has been presented in a court of law, affirming the security, accessibility, and fairness of Georgia’s elections.
“Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor,” Kemp asserted.
Despite Trump’s legal challenges, no widespread voter fraud was discovered in Georgia during the 2020 election, where Biden won by a margin of less than 12,000 votes.
