Raiders Allow Quarterback Derek Carr to Visit the New Orleans Saints
The days of Derek Carr Following the 2022 season the Las Vegas Raiders have decided to retire their Las Vegas Raiders jerseys. Instead, they plan on moving forward. Since 2014, the former Fresno State star was with the team.
So at just 31 years of age, a player who’s supposed to be considered a franchise quarterback is in search of a new team.
The gunslinger was no slouch during his time with Raiders. In nine seasons, he accumulated 35,222 yards and 217 touchdowns. He also had 99 interceptions. Carr was selected to four Pro Bowls over that period, but did not enjoy any postseason success with Silver and Black. His all-time playoff record is 0-1 as a starter.
Now, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that Carr is scheduled to meet with the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday. This will mark his first meeting with another organization, and he definitely has the Raiders’ blessing.
According to reports, there is agreement between the parties that the franchise will move on from Carr, who was 31 years old.
The Saints could represent an intriguing new chapter in Derek Carr’s career.
New Orleans is searching for a reliable signal-caller since Drew Brees’ departure in 2021. Despite taking on former Heisman Trophy winner and Tampa Bay Buccaneer Jameis Winston, they haven’t been able to replace his numbers. Taysom Hill and Andy Dalton didn’t do much to help the situation either. And even beyond the numbers, there’s clearly a huge leadership void from losing the only quarterback to lead a Super Bowl victory parade down Bourbon Street.
Carr is being considered by several teams including the New York Jets (Carolina Panthers), Washington Commanders (Washington Commanders), and New York Jets (New York Jets). With the retirement Tom BradyRumours have it that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will also be included in the mix.
Derek Carr is technically still under contract with Las Vegas, so anyone who wants to add him to their roster will need to negotiate a trade. According to reports, the Raiders would like to trade for a number-one pick. This would make the Saints an attractive suitor. The Saints currently have the 29th overall selection for the upcoming BFL Draft.
Carr’s guaranteed $40.4 million contract must be paid by any team that acquires him. The Raiders will have to pay that guarantee if the QB isn’t moved by the deadline.
Las Vegas must make a decision by February 15th if they intend to trade Carr or cut him. If they fire Carr, the team will have $29.5 million worth of cap space.
