Ramaswamy urges end to ‘admin state’
Presidential candidate gives policy speech amid scrutiny over shifting positions
Vivek Ramaswamy delivered a captivating policy address on Wednesday, calling for the dismantling of the “administrative state” and advocating for mass firings of government employees. He expressed his hope that these proposals would ignite a new “revolution” in the United States.
Ramaswamy boldly declared his intention to shut down various U.S. agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Education, emphasizing that this is just the beginning of the federal agencies that will either be closed or downsized.
“Do we want incremental reform? Or do we want revolution? I stand on the side of a revival of those 1776 ideals,” he passionately stated in his speech to America First Works, a conservative advocacy group.
This address comes at a crucial time for Ramaswamy, a 38-year-old political newcomer and biotech mogul, as he currently holds the third position in the Republican presidential race. It also coincides with increased scrutiny over some of his policy positions, such as his shifting stance on aid to Israel and his suggestion that the U.S. government has misled the public about the September 11 attacks.
To add a dramatic touch to his speech, the candidate crumpled up large signs printed with “Myths” about why the president can’t unilaterally reduce the power of the executive branch.
Ramaswamy assured the audience, which included Trump-supporting Rep. Matt Gaetz (R., Fla.) in the front row, of his unwavering commitment to “shutting down the administrative state.”
“Large-scale mass layoffs are absolutely necessary and essential by the law of the United States of America,” Ramaswamy declared. “We will actually get in there and shut it down.”
His comments echoed the sentiments of many conservatives who have criticized the Department of Education for prioritizing contentious social issues over academics and have objected to the politicization of the FBI.
Ramaswamy accused the Department of Education of wasting its approximately $80 billion budget per year on promoting toxic racial and gender ideologies to local schools, making it clear that people are yearning for an affirmative alternative vision.
