Ramaswamy wise to accept Soros funds for law school despite $2M earnings: Campaign.
GOP Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy Defends Decision to Accept Soros Scholarship
GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is making headlines for his bold choice to accept a $90,000 Soros scholarship for law school, despite earning over $2 million in income the same year.
“Vivek would have been a fool to turn down that scholarship – Anyone who would have shouldn’t get anywhere near the White House doing trade deals,”
– Tricia McLaughlin, Campaign Spokeswoman
In 2011, Ramaswamy received the $90,000 scholarship from the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, founded by George Soros’ brother. This decision has sparked controversy, as tax records released by Ramaswamy himself revealed a total income of $2,252,209 that year, according to Fox News.
Ramaswamy has defended his choice, stating that he accepted the scholarship because he “didn’t have the money” to attend law school at the time. Prior to his enrollment at Yale Law School, he worked as an investment analyst at the hedge fund QVT Financial.
Despite the controversy, Ramaswamy’s campaign remains steadfast in their support of his decision. Campaign spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin emphasized that the scholarship was a generic one, awarded to hundreds of students, and funded by a deceased relative of George Soros.
“In fact, there’s only one candidate that will be on stage Wednesday night whom George Soros has said he wants to win this primary – and it’s not Vivek.”
– Tricia McLaughlin, Campaign Spokeswoman
McLaughlin further attempted to shift the focus onto Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis, highlighting Soros’ previous statement that he wanted DeSantis to win the GOP primary. She also pointed out that DeSantis is the only governor to have removed a Soros prosecutor from office, not once but twice.
Ramaswamy, currently ranked third in the Real Clear Politics polling average of the primary race, is set to participate in the first debate of the primary alongside seven other Republican candidates. The 2024 race for the White House marks Ramaswamy’s foray into politics after achieving success in the biotech industry.
