Rampant Crime, Public Drug Use, Vagrancy Are Part of ‘Basic City Life,’ Democrats Argue
Counterpoint: No, they’re not
What’s happening: Democrats are starting to suggest that having your car burglarized and riding the subway next to a fentanyl-smoking vagrant are just “basic city life experiences.”
Wait, seriously? Yes. Democrats, including John Hamasaki, a former San Francisco police commissioner and the failed Democratic-endorsed candidate for district attorney, recently lashed out at a tech CEO who lamented that two of his colleagues had their laptops and passports stolen from their car. Hamasaki questioned whether people in suburbs are sheltered from basic city life experiences that break them to the core.
Wow, that’s deranged. Yes, it is. On the same day Hamasaki posted his tweet, a mob of school-age kids was involved in a massive brawl at a shopping mall, another typical experience of basic city life.
Do Democrats even care about crime? Most don’t seem to, as they tend to ignore the issue or deny its existence. The Democrats running Los Angeles, for instance, have allowed the city’s metro system to be overrun by fentanyl-addicted vagrants. Some liberal experts believe that enforcing the law “isn’t a solution,” which is perplexing given their support for public transport to save the planet.
What are Democrats saying about crime? They tend to ignore the issue or pretend it isn’t real. New York Governor Kathy Hochul suggested that rising crime in New York City was a “conspiracy” invented by Republican “manipulators.” California Attorney General Rob Bonta blamed car manufacturers for the spike in vehicle thefts on his watch, arguing that families shouldn’t have to worry that manufacturers are cutting corners that could put their purchase at risk.
Who’s to blame? Democrats tend to blame everyone but the criminals for rising crime, demonstrating their disposition to see criminals as the real victims and actual crime victims as Karens who should shut up and take it.
