Raquel Welch’s Cause Of Death Revealed
According to TMZ, legendary sex symbol Raquel Welch, who was born Jo-Raquel Tejada in Chicago on September 5, 1940, passed away on February 15 after battling Alzheimer’s disease. Her death certificate confirms that the cause of death was cardiac arrest but her battle with Alzheimer’s had not been revealed at that time.
In a 2014 interview with then-Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, Welch stated that she “was more on the conservative side” which was a result of her upbringing in the Midwest. She also expressed the importance of respecting one’s country and honoring the people who fight for it. The actress had accompanied legendary comedian Bob Hope on his visits to entertain American soldiers stationed in Vietnam.
Welch became an international sensation after appearing in the 1966 film “Fantastic Voyage” and a deerskin bikini in “One Million Years BC.” Describing her experience, she wrote in her memoir, “Raquel: Beyond the Cleavage” that while she was grateful for the break that led to her career, it wasn’t who she was as a person. Her role in “One Million Years BC” also nearly cost her life as Welch contracted tonsillitis during filming and had to be treated quickly to avoid serious consequences.
In spite of the “tear each other’s eyes out” reputation that the entertainment industry had then and still struggles with, Welch was pleased to find that not everyone subscribed to it. She reminisced about when actress Faye Dunaway approached her during her first day on set and expressed her admiration for her work. Despite their supposed rivalry, the actresses had a pleasant and upbeat conversation, much to the disappointment of those hoping for the opposite.
Welch was a gifted actress in her own right, scoring a Golden Globe nomination for her role in “The Three Musketeers.” In 2011, Men’s Health ranked her No. 2 in their list of the 100 Hottest Women of All Time.
