StopAntisemitism Group names Rashida Tlaib ‘Anti-Semite of the Year

Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib has been crowned the “Anti-Semite of the Year.”
On Monday, the StopAntisemitism organization bestowed the title of “Anti-Semite of the Year” upon Tlaib (D-Mich.), following her anti-Semitic remarks regarding the October 7th attacks on Israel by Hamas.
Congresswoman Tlaib emerged victorious after defeating a formidable lineup of contenders in the race for the top spot, as anti-Semitism continues to rise globally following Hamas’s October 7th attack. Tlaib even surpassed senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and supermodel Gigi Hadid.
After 15,000 votes were cast, Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district, was declared the winner.
Tlaib, the fifth recipient of the “Anti-Semite of the Year” title, joins the ranks of Kanye West (2022) and Anuradha Mittal (2021), the vice president and head of the board of directors of the Ben & Jerry’s Foundation Inc.
The mission of the StopAntisemitism association is to expose “groups and individuals that espouse incitement towards the Jewish people and State and engage in anti-Semitic behaviors.”
The organization highlighted several instances of the Michigan representative’s ongoing criticism of Israel.
“Rep. Tlaib’s well-earned title reflects a long history of antisemitism, but her statements in the wake of Hamas’s October 7th attacks were particularly unconscionable,” said StopAntisemitism Executive Director Liora Rez. “Tlaib not only victim-blamed Israel, but she also accused it of committing genocide against the Palestinians and continues to defend calls to ethnically cleanse Israel of Jews and genocide.”
“This is a historically dangerous time for American Jews,” added Rez. “Amid an explosion in anti-Semitic incidents and hate crimes, we can’t afford to have our elected representatives adding fuel to the fire.”
In October, Tlaib faced criticism for falsely claiming that an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) bomb had destroyed a Gaza hospital, despite evidence proving that it was a misfired missile from Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
A few days later, Tlaib drew scrutiny on social media for standing alongside demonstrators who chanted, “Palestine will be free from the river to the sea.”
While the Anti-Defamation League views the chant as a call for the elimination of Israel in its current form, the American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) argues that it reflects a literal call for genocide against Jewish people. Tlaib maintains that the chant is ”an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence.”
The House of Representatives censured Tlaib for defending the hateful chant, with 212 Republicans and 22 Democrats voting in favor of her censure.
Furthermore, it was later revealed that the Michigan congresswoman is involved in a secret Facebook group that praises Hamas terrorists responsible for the abduction and murder of numerous Israeli civilians, including at least 39 Americans.
The orchestrator of the hidden Facebook group, called “Palestinian American Congress,” has made derogatory remarks about Israeli people and expressed doubt about the Holocaust.
By naming Tlaib as the “Anti-Semite of the Year,” the Executive Director of StopAntisemitism emphasized the fact that she is a member of Congress.
