More than half of the nation’s likely voters say they’re “very concerned” about the size of the nation’s national debt, and three-fourths are at least somewhat concerned, a new Rasmussen Reports survey reveals.
“The U.S. national debt is now more than $31 trillion. How concerned are you about the size of the national debt?” Rasmussen surveyed 1,000 likely voters in the United States during a survey that was conducted January 2nd through February 4, 2023.

The debt is still very concerning for Democrats (38%), Republicans (69%), and unaffiliated voters (53%).
Strong majorities of Republicans (87%), unaffiliated voters (73%), and even Democrats (68%) say they’re at least somewhat concerned about the size of the national debt.
However, while 69% of Republicans and 53% of unaffiliated voters consider the debt a serious problem, just Democrats (38%) think it’s of great concern.
Democrat voters (73%) are far more likely to approve of President Joe Biden’s $1.7 trillion Omnibus Spending bill than Republican (21%) or unaffiliated voters (40%)
