The Darien Gap: A Challenging Journey
The population of an entire U.S. city has embarked on an extraordinary journey through the treacherous Darien Gap this year. According to Panama migration officials, over 260,000 illegal immigrants have crossed into their country from the dense jungle that marks the border with Colombia. Astonishingly, this number surpasses the total migrant traffic for the entire year of 2022, and it’s only been seven months. To put it into perspective, that’s more people than the entire population of Des Moines, Iowa.
A Complicated Situation
Adding to the complexity of this situation is the accusation made by a Panamanian official. They claim that Colombia is not fulfilling its responsibilities in managing the migration flow.
