Harris megadonor Reid Hoffman mulls leaving US in wake of Trump win: Report
Democratic megadonor Reid Hoffman, who spent millions of dollars trying to will Vice President Kamala Harris to the White House, is reportedly considering fleeing the United States.
Three sources told the New York Times that Hoffman is considering the move over President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Harris. Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn and a venture capitalist, is a longtime donor to Democrats and helped back Future Forward, the main outside group that supported her in the 2024 election.
Hoffman did not respond to a request for comment through his venture capital firm, Greylock Partners. According to the newspaper, other megadonors have also floated the idea of moving abroad, illustrating the deep fears among the Left about Trump’s second ascent to power.
Nonetheless, upon Trump’s win in 2016, many famous Democrats had vowed they would leave the country, though they remained in the U.S.
“People are kind of shellshocked — and trying to figure out what happened,” Steve Silberstein, a software entrepreneur who donates to Democrats, told the outlet. “People are trying to adjust to reality and plot out a path forward.”
Hoffman, according to the report, “is worried about retribution from a president who has promised to go after his political opponents, including major Democratic donors.”
The LinkedIn co-founder is not the only celebrity Democrat who has apparently considered leaving the country — a cohort that has included the likes of Barbra Streisand and Cher.
“I almost got an ulcer the last time,” Cher said last year. “If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave.”
